Mission: Four One Forty

and Kiss the Child

Running away from this Earth.  May it pass in the beautiful flames.  So begins the apocalyptic masterpiece that is Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child.  From the very first beat this Georgian quintet never stops the hardcore onslaught that envisions a world that is eating itself up from the inside.  With a new singer and a new name, the Band Formerly Known as Luti-Kriss produces an extremely worthy sophomore album.  The beauty of this record is the fact that it was recorded live in the studio; no computers were used at all.  This gives Norma Jean the chance to echo their ferocious live show in the recording.  And what a live show it is!  I had the chance to see them last year with Cool Hand Luke and Showbread, quite possibly the best hardcore show I have seen to date.  There is such an energy and showmanship in what they do that the concertgoer is hooked right from the get-go, and that is true of Bless the Martyr...  Now, some of you (including myself) may not be able to sit through an entire aggressive hardcore CD, but this one manages to keep me interested at several points throughout.  It can get a bit repetitive sometimes, but the first four songs are enough to get a fix before switching to something else.  I would recommend I Used to Hate Cell Phones But Now I Hate Car Accidents and the incredible Memphis Will be Laid to Waste featuring  a cameo from Aaron Jonathan Weiss from mewithoutYou.  A very good album overall, and an excellent live show.

Hardcore! yeah!
