I've put it off long enough. I received a copy of Thrsday's Full Collapse eight
months ago, and I haven't stopped listening to it since. This is without a doubt one of the best new bands this
year, as Thursday took their act on the road on both the Warped tour and The Plea for Peace tour with Poison the Well, Cursive,
Common Rider, and the Lawrence Arms. Their New Jersey-born-and-bred post-hardcore takes the genre to a new, more emotional
level than the at times impersonal and harsh lyrics of their contemporaries.
On Full Collapse, their label debut on Victory Records, Thursday tackle some very serious issues,
from a friend's car crash to the discrimination evident in the hardcore scene. Over the entire record singer Geoff
Rickley's quirky voice soars and shatters, and you can feel his emotion. Musically it is just as dynamic, from quiet
riffs reminiscient of U2 to raging distorted melodies. This is a band that is going places. Right now they are
currently recording the follow up to Full Collapse, which is expected to be released late summer ( www.thursday.net for studio journal). No matter how you're feeling on any given day, Thursday will find a place in your brain and live
there. Check out Autobiography of a Nation or Cross Out the Eyes to get a sense of the masterpiece that is Full Collapse.
One of the best albums of 2002.
